Mary Deray
Mary DeRay - OCQ otherwise known as Obsessive-Compulsive Quilter.
Mary has been quilting for more than 25 years and has never been without a new idea or skill coming into her life. Mary teaches on the local level many aspects of hand quilting, free motion quilting, fabric postcards and now Sashiko embroidery. Thanks to her grandchildren who said "Grandma will make a quilt with our class" she has quilted with many grade school children over the years and yes, some have taken up the hobby. Also, through a library grant she was able to make a quilt with children, their parents, siblings and grandparents. Her quilts have been awarded first place in a number of area shows and shown in Lancaster, Hershey, Pigeon Forge and two have been accepted in traveling exhibits; Hoffman (One More Ride-carousel horse) and in Houston (The Last Rose of Summer - Ode to a Serial Quilter). Branching out to larger shows in her teaching, Mary is very excited to bring her passion for quilting to others.

Learn a little about the history of a traditional form of Japanese embroidery called sashiko while making a "kamon", a family crest ornimental emblem which was used on kimonos or we would use in quilting designs. This is a hand work embroidery which is very useful to incorporate into all those lovely Asian fabrics we are seeing today. Also, my favorite part is that you have portable projects to do in the car or in front of the TV while your hubby watches yet another ballgame!!
